Cathy Braun - Associate Broker/CDPE®
Cathy Braun has been an Ely girl from day one! She learned the meaning of hard work, dedication, and responsibility as she grew up in Ely with her parents, 5 brothers and 4 sisters. The love for Ely's small town values, scenic outdoors, and activities has kept this small, hometown girl from looking anywhere else for the perfect place to raise her 5 children. Cathy has been selling real estate in the Ely area for 15 years & is ready to assist those who can benefit from her expertise.
Cathy has earned the prestigious Certified Distressed Property Expert® (CDPE) designation. Certified Distressed Property Expert Cathy has completed extensive training in foreclosure avoidance, with a particular emphasis on short sales. Short sales allow the distressed homeowner to repay the mortgage at the price that the home sells for, even if it is lower than what is owed on the property.
Chris Eilrich - Managing Broker
I grew up in the Mankato area but have always called Ely home. In my youth, I would spend the summers, weekends, and any chance I had to come to Ely. I worked at and managed local resorts and campgrounds for eleven years.
After graduating from Ridgewater College with a degree in Drafting, I moved to Ely with my wife Laurie and started working for a local survey company. I spent six years surveying, where I developed my knowledge of real estate and land development and I'm excited to share that knowledge with you.
My wife and I wanted our three young children to experience the rewards of growing up at a resort. In 2006, my childhood dream of owning a resort was fulfilled when we purchased Fenske Lake Cabins north of Ely, right off of the scenic Echo Trail.
I have been selling real estate in and around Ely for the last 11 years. I understand how important and exciting buying a home or property can be and surround myself with all the necessary professionals to help you through the process. From the time you start looking at property to the closing and even after, I will be there to make it a smooth and enjoyable experience.
You can email me at email@example.com with questions on any of my listings.

Gil Knight- Realtor
I first visited Ely in 1965 as a 14-year-old Boy Scout on a canoe trip and knew immediately this was where I belonged! I worked for 2 summers as a canoe guide at the Charles L. Sommers High Adventure Base on Moose Lake in the late 60s. I moved here year-round in 1972 and attended Vermilion Community College earning a degree in Natural Resource Technology.
From 1973 to 1989, I was a wilderness ranger and recreation technician on the Superior National Forest. I then attended the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and completed a Bachelor s Degree in Speech and Journalism in 1992.
My other passion at the end-of-the-road, has been WELY Radio. In the mid 70s and early 80s, I worked there as a DJ and advertising salesperson. In 1995, Charles Kuralt retired from CBS and bought our little station. One of the proudest moments in my life was when I was asked to become his News Director!
Sadly, Charles wasn’t with us very long. In the late 90s thru 2001, I returned to the station as host of the Morning Show. To this day, I occasionally sit in on a program as a guest host and continue to support the station thru my real estate advertising.
My life experience has provided me the opportunity to serve, on a call when needed basis, as a Public Information Officer on National Incident Management Teams since 1997. I have worked on forest fires, floods, disease outbreaks, the space shuttle Columbia recovery and various hurricanes, including Katrina.
The real estate bug hit me in 1999. I decided that my love and knowledge of the area, my desire to see this country developed in a positive way, and my communication skills made for a good combination. I enjoy helping folks find their perfect piece of paradise.
Giving back to the community has always been very important to me. I currently serve on the Ely Planning and Zoning Board, the Ely Chamber of Commerce Merchant s Board and am the President of the Vermilion Community College Foundation.

John Swenson - Broker
John’s been an active member of the Ely tourism community for over 20 years. He’s owned and operated several resorts and outfitting businesses here and is a past president of the Ely Chamber of Commerce, the Ely Area Resort Association, and the Ely Tourism Board.
A Chicago native, John’s first visit to Ely was at age 9 with his grandfather and Ely has been his vacation destination of choice ever since. He and his wife Sheryl even honeymooned on a Basswood Lake campsite. So when John had the opportunity to purchase a small resort in 1988, the choice to follow his dreams and relocate to Ely was certainly an easy one.
John’s leisure time is focused on the out-of-doors. During the summer, he enjoys canoeing the BWCA and Quetico Parks, fishing, and exploring new lakes. Winter finds him snowmobiling the area many trails or augering a hole (or two) for ice-fishing.
John will tell you that the Ely area with all its natural beauty and its hometown friendly atmosphere offers a superior lifestyle for small business owners, families looking for a neighborly place to raise children, and folks looking for a peaceful vacation lake home. John can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I look forward to welcoming you to my favorite place – Ely, MN.
Kris Schmidt - Realtor
Kris and his wife Sue have lived in Ely since June of 2000 having moved up here from Minneapolis. Prior to that, they spent many summer weekends at Sue’s family’s place on Burntside Lake. In the winter, they split their time between their house in the woods overlooking Cedar Lake and skiing in Colorado. They have 3 grown children, one of which – Alex, moved back to Ely after 2 years of college in Minneapolis. They also share their lives with a yellow lab named Daisy.
Lori Schulze - Realtor
Hi Everyone! I am so excited to join the team at Wildwoods Land Company. I have known John Swenson, our Broker, for the past 20 years when my husband Jeff and I first purchased Timber Wolf Lodge on Bear Island Lake. John came for a visit and we picked his brain for all the information we could on resorting. When it came time to sell, John was there to make the transaction successful. I enjoyed the years at the resort and introduced many people to our wonderful area. I grew up in Tower, MN and spending my life in this area made it easy to pass on all my knowledge and experience to others.
We immediately moved forward with Schulze Excavating, Inc. and have been very busy working hard and raising our 4 children. I thought of real estate for myself because I enjoy helping and assisting people with their plans and ideas for either selling or buying. I have been an active realtor for the past 5 years and have enjoyed all the adventures it has taken me on. I am a big believer in teamwork and did not hesitate when John invited me to join the team at Wildwoods Land Company.
